Over 20 years ago, Insulating Concrete Forms (ICF's) were almost exclusively used for "below grade" construction of basements, foundations and stem walls where concrete was already the building material of choice. ICF's improved the speed of construction - and where insulation was needed - became the better alternative to typical construction techniques using "poured concrete walls" or concrete masonry units.
Later as a result of improved engineering - as is represented by ECO-Block's extremely versatile ICF system, contractors began to use ICF's in "above grade" residential applications. Additionally, homeowners began to accept "insulating concrete walls" as a more desirable alternative to conventional wood-frame construction.
The reasons were many and obvious:
Superior, uniform insulation without thermal "breaks" dramatically reduces energy costs (up to 40% less than typical wood-frame construction).
Walls of reinforced concrete are stronger... more resistant to natural disasters like hurricanes, tornadoes, and earthquakes.
Insulated concrete walls are sound supressive... resulting in a much quieter living environment.
Concrete walls are fire resistant - a six inch concrete wall gives a 3 hour fire rating.
Environmentally more acceptable... No trees are cut down to build concrete homes.
And, concrete walls are not subject to wood rot... Concrete walls last for centuries.
For all the same reasons, now commercial contractors, developers and owners have begun to accept Insulating Concrete Forms. ECO-Block has already been used on numerous commercial, industrial and government projects. Schools, Churches, Restauants, Office Buildings, Underground Storage Centers, even Fire Stations are being built using ECO-Block.
